DAY CARE PROVIDERS GET GRANTS FOR MORE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

December 16, 2003

DECEMBER 16, 2003 Several day care workers in Newton County are among those selected to receive INCENTIVE$ grants in the form of salary supplements for professional training.

"By supplementing teachers' salaries, INCENTIVE$ encourages those who work directly with young children to stay in the field and continue to gain knowledge and refine their skills," said Stephanie Woolbright, speaking for the Smart Start Georgia Grants program.

"The recipients typically work in private early learning settings which could include a home day care center or a facility for underprivileged children," Woolbright said.

By supplementing teachers' salaries, the program encourages those who work directly with young children to stay in the field and continue to gain knowledge and refine their skills, she said. Typically day care centers have a high turnover rate for staff members.

A total of $3,525 in grants was awarded in Newton County.
